Italian wine producer Terra dei Re first to obtain Friend of the Earth sustainability certification

Terra dei Re – Italian wine company located in Basilicata region – has recently achieved the Friend of the Earth certification for wine and can now display the official seal of approval on its products.

Born in 2000, the company relies on old traditions of local winemakers and is currently run by two families - Leone and Rabasco – which work in perfect synergy.

The distinguishing feature of Terra dei Re is the production of Aglianico del Vulture, a red wine based on the Aglianico grape and produced on the volcanic soils in the Vulture area of Basilicata.

The company currently occupies around thirty-one hectares of vineyards, with an approximate yield of forty quintals per hectare.

Typical of the company is the night harvest event, held in Fall.

“We are very proud to have achieved the Friend of the Earth certification,” say Paride Leone and Claudio Rabasco, Sales Managers and Administrators of Terra dei Re. “The main goal of Terra dei Re is to offer premium wine products in the best sustainable way.”

Friend of the Earth
Friend of the Earth is a non-profit project for the certification of products from sustainable agriculture and farming. Coming from the positive experience of the Friend of the Sea certification for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, Friend of the Earth is rapidly growing as the leading international label for sustainable agriculture production. Friend of the Earth certification requirements are based on FAO's SAFA guidelines for sustainable agriculture and farming. Certified production sites cannot be developed on critical habitats and producers must have a social and environmental management system in place, be compliant with national environmental laws, conserve existing ecosystems and reduce their impacts to a sustainable level.
