Italian wine producer Fossa Mala obtains Friend of the Earth sustainability certification

Fossa Mala – Italian wine company located in Friuli region – has recently achieved the Friend of the Earth sustainability certification for wine and can now display the official seal of approval on all of its products.

Situated in the historical Fossa Mala estate, the company produces DOC wines under Controlled Designation of Origin Grave of Friuli.

Fossa Mala complies with strict Friend of the Earth certification requirements, including wild flora and fauna protection, appropriate soil, water and energy management, and social accountability. In addition, the company protects all natural ecosystems on its property, by means of reforestation. Solar panels have also been installed to increase the use of renewable energy.

“The Friend of the Earth certification is an important step forward for our company,” says Katia Roncadin, Owner and CEO of Fossa Mala. “We have already implemented several sustainability policies and we are happy to increase our efforts in order to protect the environment and meet our customers’ expectations.”

Friend of the Earth
Friend of the Earth is a non-profit project for the certification of products from sustainable agriculture and farming. Coming from the positive experience of the Friend of the Sea certification for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, Friend of the Earth is rapidly growing as the leading international label for sustainable agriculture production. Friend of the Earth certification requirements are based on FAO's SAFA guidelines for sustainable agriculture and farming. Certified production sites cannot be developed on critical habitats and producers must have a social and environmental management system in place, be compliant with national environmental laws, conserve existing ecosystems and reduce their impacts to a sustainable level.
